Wolfs Company, in collaboration with the Wadden Academy (Waddenacademie) and VU University Amsterdam, provided a natural capital workshop on the island of Terschelling on the 19th of September. Around 20 public sector, NGO and local business representatives attended the full-day workshop to learn about, and provide valuable insight into, the value of nature for the local community. Socio-economic valuation of our environment, or ecosystem services, can provide key information to support policy decisions. This can give insight into the relationship between nature and people. It was discussed how the valuation of these services could be useful for Terschelling. This is especially true considering its reputation for hosting events and festivals that are focused on developing a symbiotic relationship with the environment and providing many cultural services to the festival participants.
